Industry 4.0 Software Project
Overview
This unit aims to give students practical experience in the application and design of the software-based tools of Industry 4.0. These include product lifecycle management, computer-aided design, network communications and digital twinning.
Requisites
Learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
- Analyze the flows of data required throughout a manufacturing or production process using the frameworks of Industry 4.0 (A2, A4, K3)
- Evaluate the software platforms of Industry 4.0, including CAD, PLM, and digital twinning for suitability for application to a given process (A4, K4, S4)
- Select and apply the relevant software platforms to create a model of a given process (K2, K4, S1, S3)
- Design a complete software pipeline for the analysis, control and optimization of a given process (A6, A7, S1, S2, S3, S4)

Content
In this unit, students will complete a project implementing the software-based components of an Industry 4.0 solution to a manufacturing and/or production problem. The project will require students to:
- analyze the flows of data required throughout the system that is being designed
- evaluate the software platforms for suitability for managing these data flows and modelling of the system
- apply the relevant software platforms to create a model of the process being designed for the project.
