
End of Life Care
Overview
In this unit students will be exposed to models of end of life and palliative care, as practiced in a range of environments, and the ethical and legal issues that may arise. They will learn about care of the dying person as well as how to promote and maintain their independence and quality of life. Students will additionally learn about models of grief and associated nursing interventions.

Learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
- Describe models of grief, end of life and palliative care as practised in Australia
- Discuss the holistic care of the dying person and their significant others, in promoting their quality of life
- Critically analyse ethical and legal issues in end of life care
- Plan evidence based nursing care for the dying person and their family

Hurdle
As the minimum requirements of assessment to pass a unit and meet all ULOs to a minimum standard, an undergraduate student must have achieved:
- Students must gain an aggregate mark of 50% or more. Conceded passes are not recognised by the Australian Nursing & Midwifery Accreditation Council therefore conceded passes will not be granted.
- Clinical Learning Environment has a 100% attendance requirement as per the Australian Nursing & Midwifery Accreditation Council.
- Tutorials have an 80% attendance requirement as per the Australian Nursing & Midwifery Accreditation Council.
