Overview

This unit consolidates and extends students’ knowledge, practical clinical skills and contemporary evidence to effectively assess and manage individuals from diverse backgrounds who have vertebral and/or sport-related injuries. It further develops students’ abilities by providing learning activities that offer the opportunity to develop clinical reasoning and various diagnostic and physiotherapy management skills. These skills are based on the World Health Organisation (WHO) International Classification of Functioning, Disability and health (ICF) model and the utilisation of evidenced based outcome measures.

Learning outcomes

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:

  • Critically evaluate and synthesise current research evidence underpinning the differential diagnosis, assessment and intervention of vertebral and/or sports injuries
  • Select, safely perform and justify appropriate and physiotherapy assessments for people with vertebral and/or sports injuries
  • Apply effective clinical reasoning to analyse and explain the findings of assessments and produce prioritised problem lists and person-centred goals relevant to people with vertebral and/or sports injuries
  • Safely perform, evaluate and justify evidence informed and person-centred physiotherapy interventions, for vertebral and/or sports injuries
  • Interpret and effectively communicate clinical information to clients, caregivers, and interdisciplinary team members from diverse backgrounds to enhance understanding, inclusivity, and engagement in the therapeutic process
