Overview

This unit gives students opportunities to develop their case management and intervention competencies in practical settings, with appropriate clinical supervision. Their practicum experience is complemented by live demonstrations and lectures on cognitive behavioural therapy, and counselling approaches for relationship issues, including domestic violence.

Learning outcomes

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:

  • Identify and evaluate cognitive or family systems counselling theories, and the common counselling issues that are managed in their respective contexts
  • Apply advanced counselling skills using different modalities for a range of client presentations.
  • Identify legal issues concerning multi-faceted and complex problems
  • Produce case reports with depth and clarity
  • Reflect on the development of counselling skills through supervision
