
Advanced Topics in Sports Psychology
Overview
This unit builds on students’ knowledge of sport and exercise psychology gained from earlier units in the course. The focus is on enhancing the understanding of psychological factors and the development of expert skilled performance in individual and group sports, with a particular focus on practical applications of these concepts.

Learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
- Apply basic sport psychology principles to individual cases in sport and exercise psychology
- Compare and contrast different psychology-based approaches to skill development in sport and exercise
- Understand principles of arousal regulation, goal setting, group and team dynamics, and exercise adherence within specific situations
- Examine unhealthy aspects associated with sport and exercise, such as burnout, addiction and aggression
- Critically evaluate advanced issues within sports and exercise psychology
