Advanced Switching
Overview
This unit is designed to teach students how to implement, monitor, and maintain switching in converged enterprise campus networks. Students will learn how to plan, configure, and verify the implementation of complex enterprise switching solutions. Comprehensive labs emphasize hands-on learning and practice to reinforce configuration skills.

Learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
- Describe the Enterprise Campus Network design (K3, S1)
- Implement and explain the operations of VLAN and Spanning Tree technologies in a Campus network (K3, S2, S3)
- Plan, configure, and verify trunking, Private VLANs, link aggregation with Etherchannel (A2, K3, S2, S3)
- Configure Inter-VLAN routing, DHCP in a Multilayer Switched environment (K3, S1 ,S2, S3)
- Describe, configure, implement and verify High Availability and First Hop redundancy protocols ( A2, K3, S1, S2, S3)
- Implement and verify security in the Campus infrastructure (A2, K3, S1, S2, S3)
- Monitor, analyse, and troubleshoot switch performance, connectivity and security issues (A2, K3, S1, S2, S3)

Hurdle
As the minimum requirements of assessment to pass a unit and meet all ULOs to a minimum standard, an undergraduate student must have achieved:
(i) An aggregate mark of 50% or more, and(ii) At least 40% in the final exam, and(iii) A Pass grade for the Skills Exam. The criteria for passing the Skills Exam is available in the Unit Outline.Students who do not successfully achieve hurdle requirements (ii) and (iii) will receive a maximum of 45% as the total mark for the unit.
