Learning outcomes

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:

  • Describe the process of routing (K3)
  • Analyse the operation of and differences between various dynamic routing protocols (K3, S2, S3)
  • Use Access Control Lists as a security technique to control traffic flow across the network (K2, K3, S1)
  • Appraise and demonstrate the use of DHCP to automatically configure networks (K2, K3)
  • Apply NAT and PPP techniques to connect corporate networks to the wider Internet (K2, K3, S3)
  • Appreciate the wider role of WAN technologies and the IPv6 Protocol in the deployment of the Internet (K3)
  • Design and construct a secure and functional network that uses dynamic routing protocols, automated device configuration, ACL firewalls, and NAT/PPP WAN technologies (K2, K3, S1, S2, S3, A2, A7)
