Work Experience in Industry A
Overview
This unit enables students to develop their sense of identity and professional self and supports their transition from student to professional. The unit comprises supported learning whilst undertaking meaningful full-time work experience in an area relevant to their discipline of studies. The unit aims to develop a desired range of employability attributes sought by employers, which centre on developing an understanding of the professional workplace, effectively participating and contributing to the workplace, interacting with many professionals, being exposed to the career options students can pursue upon graduation, and growing and developing personally whilst improving generic skills.

Learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
- Work individually and as part of a team, utilising discipline-specific skills to respond to workplace needs
- Demonstrate professional industry-specific communication skills
- Respond to industry supervisor feedback and utilise reflection throughout the placement for improved professional practice

Content
This unit is undertaken concurrently with Integrated Professional Placement A. Together the units provide supported This unit provides supported work-based learning in a real-world context.
- Students will work in the industry or community placement to which they have been assigned, under the supervision of their Industry Supervisor
- Students will be allocated a discipline-specific Swinburne Academic Supervisor who has relevant industry knowledge of their placement area
- Students will be required to respond to feedback from stakeholders in ways that inform and improve future practice
- Assessment is designed to support professional communication and feedback mechanisms used in industry
