Swinburne Vietnam officially launches

Swinburne Vietnam officially opened in Hanoi on 1 October 2019, delivering a small suite of sought after undergraduate programs in partnership with the technology-focused FPT University.
The Governor of Victoria, Linda Dessau AC, inaugurated the new Swinburne location with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a plaque unveiling.

There was a big turnout for the launch, with government dignitaries from Australia and Vietnam, as well as representatives from Swinburne and FPT Corporation attending. They included the Commissioner for Victoria to Southeast Asia, Brett Stevens; Australian Ambassador to Vietnam, Robyn Mudie; and the Chairman of FPT Corporation, Dr Trương Gia Bình.
Shaping the future workforce
Speaking at the launch, Swinburne’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Duncan Bentley, said Swinburne Vietnam is part of the university’s aim to boost participation in higher education in Australia and abroad.

"The launch of Swinburne Vietnam enables enrolled and future students to physically and intellectually access a world-class education and to become equipped with essential technical, entrepreneurial and innovative skills," Professor Bentley said.
Swinburne Vietnam offers courses in Information and Communication Technology, Business, and Media and Communication.
The first 100 students started studying at the state-of-the-art campus last month.
"This strategic partnership is the latest outcome of the Expanding Global Capability strategy, headed by Swinburne International. We hope this partnership will contribute to the preparation of a future, well-rounded workforce that will make a significant contribution to economic and social development in Vietnam."
Swinburne history in advancing Vietnam education
Swinburne a long history of engagement in Vietnam, and delivered its first international education program there 25 years ago. Other highlights include:
- Supporting the Way To Olympia Peak television show, which showcases Vietnam’s brightest high school students, and offering scholarships to the winners
- Establishing several institutional partnerships with Vietnam’s leading universities including the University of Architecture and Vietnam National University
- Undertaking collaborative activities such as joint research and PhD scholarships with the Vietnamese government
The new Swinburne Vietnam course offering, as well as locations in Sri Lanka and Malaysia, are part of Swinburne’s commitment to providing excellent outcomes in learning.
