Course rules
To qualify for the award of Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science, students must complete 400 credit points comprising of:
- 11 core units of study (150 credit points)
- 8 units of study from an arts discipline major in one of the following: Advertising, Chinese, Cinema and Screen Studies, Creative Writing and Literature, Criminology, Digital Advertising Technology, Environmental Sustainability, Games and Interactivity, Global Studies, History, Indigenous Studies, Japanese, Journalism, Media Industries, Philosophy, Politics and International Relations, Professional Writing and Editing, Social Media, and Sociology (100 credit points)
- 8 units of study from a science discipline major in one of the following: Applied Mathematics, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, and Physics (100 credit points)
- 4 units of study (50 credit points) comprising of an advanced minor, and/or minor, and/or electives
Domestic students also have an opportunity to undertake a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Professional Placement. This option is not available to international students.
Professional Placements
Professional Placements are subject to a competitive selection process.
Students who undertake a 12-month professional placement are subject to the following course rules and must complete 475 credit points comprising:
- 11 core units of study (150 credit points)
- 8 units of study from an arts discipline major in one of the following: Advertising, Chinese, Cinema and Screen Studies, Creative Writing and Literature, Criminology, Digital Advertising Technology, Environmental Sustainability, Games and Interactivity, Global Studies, History, Indigenous Studies, Japanese, Journalism, Media Industries, Philosophy, Politics and International Relations, Professional Writing and Editing, Social Media, and Sociology (100 credit points)
- 8 units of study from a science discipline major in one of the following: Applied Mathematics, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, and Physics (100 credit points)
- 4 units of study from the Professional Placement Co-Major (100 credit points)
- 2 units of study (25 credit points) comprising of electives
Students who elect to undertake a 6-month professional placement are subject to the following course rules and must complete 437.5 credit points comprising:
- 11 core units of study (150 credit points)
- 8 units of study from an arts discipline major in one of the following: Advertising, Chinese, Cinema and Screen Studies, Creative Writing and Literature, Criminology, Digital Advertising Technology, Environmental Sustainability, Games and Interactivity, Global Studies, History, Indigenous Studies, Japanese, Journalism, Media Industries, Philosophy, Politics and International Relations, Professional Writing and Editing, Social Media, and Sociology (100 credit points)
- 8 units of study from a science discipline major in one of the following: Applied Mathematics, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, and Physics (100 credit points)
- 2 units of study from the Professional Placement Minor (50 credit points)
- 3 units of study (37.5 credit points) comprising of electives
Students may not complete more than 150 credit points at Introductory Level. A unit of study can only be counted once, where units are shared between majors and/or minors, students must choose an approved alternate.
Maximum Academic Credit
The maximum level of credit that can be granted for the Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science is 200 credit points (normally 16 units), 100 credit points maximum from each discipline
