Course rules
To qualify for the Bachelor of Engineering (Construction) (Honours), students must complete a total of 400 credit points (32 credit bearing units, plus 2 non-credit point units), as follows:
- 10 Foundation Studies units (125 credit points)
- 9 Technical Studies units (112.5 credit points)
- 4 Advanced Engineering units (50 credit points)
- 2 Research project units incorporating 12.5 credit points research principles and methods (25 credit points)
- 3 Management and Business Studies units (37.5 credit points)
- 4 Elective units (50 credit points), either from Specialist Studies electives or an Approved Minor
In addition, students must complete 2 compulsory, non-credit point units (0 credit points).
Note: this course contains 3 Final Year project units (capstone experiences) which help meet professional accreditation requirements.
Honours merit calculation
Honours merit calculation will be based on the averaged results of 12 units in the final two years of the course with the following descriptive outcomes:
- BEng (Construction) (Hons) with High Distinction; for students who achieve ≥ 80
- BEng (Construction) (Hons) with Distinction; for students who achieve 70 – 79
- BEng (Construction) (Hons) with Credit; for students who achieve 60 – 69
- BEng (Construction) (Hons); for students who achieve < 60
Students who transfer with advanced standing are required to undertake at least 9 of the following units at Swinburne, including all 6 outcome units, to qualify for an honours merit calculation. This honours merit calculation will be based only on units completed at Swinburne. If a student has not completed at least 9 of the specified units, they will graduate with a Bachelor of Engineering (Construction) (Honours) as an award title, but not be eligible for a merit based honours description.
