The aim of this unit is to impart environmental sustainability related learning outcomes essential for construction industry.

Learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
- Describe the basic concepts of sustainability, sustainable development and sustainable construction (K1)
- Recognise the international, national and local regulation developments in the area of sustainability (K4)
- Appreciate the causes and effects of climate change (K1, K4)
- Describe the effects of energy usage on greenhouse gas production and relevance of energy efficiency in buildings (K4, K6)
- Demonstrate a functional knowledge of formulating and specifying practical measures for environmental sustainability that can be implemented in design and construction (K6)
- Apply sustainability tools and indicators and appreciate their scopes and limitations (S1)

As the minimum requirements of assessment to pass a unit and meet all ULOs to a minimum standard, an undergraduate student must have achieved:
an overall mark for the unit of 50% or more

- Basic Concepts: Terminology, International Developments, National Developments
- Sustainability issues: Climate change, Energy, Resources and materials, Indoor  Environment, Quality of building services, Outdoor Environment
- Implementation: Policies, Design Issues, Tools and Indicators and reporting.
