Undergraduate study level

If you're enrolled in a bachelor or associate degrees, you're an undergraduate student.

Your course induction is on your first day – an all-day event where you'll get everything you need to kick off your studies with confidence. It's essential to attend, so make sure you RSVP and save the date.

Double-degree students may need to attend two course inductions

If you've enrolled in a double degree, you may need to attend two course inductions. So, double-check you're in the right place. 

International Fair

If you're an international student, there's a special International Fair just for you. It's where you'll get all the must-have information for starting your journey.

Starting uni can be intimidating, but there's no need to go it alone. There are plenty of ways to connect with people who have similar interests and backgrounds outside of your course. You can:

  • Check out all the student clubs on show
  • Find out how to get involved with volunteering opportunities
  • Discover the Multi Faith Centre
  • Learn more about the peer mentoring program
  • Explore the festivities at Discovery Day, including food, live music, activities, and plenty of opportunities to connect with new friends

Take a campus tour

This is your campus now. Get to know the place and make yourself at home by joining a campus tour during Orientation. Tours will depart every 15 minutes from John Street during your course induction.

Postgraduate study level

If you're enrolled in a graduate certificate, graduate diploma or masters degree, you're a postgraduate student.

International Fair

If you're an international student, there's a special International Fair just for you. It's where you'll get all the must-have information for starting your journey.

Your course induction is an excellent place to network with your peers and professors. Outside of your course, there are lots of ways to connect with others on campus who share your interests. 

Be sure to check out:

  • Peer Mentoring services
  • Student clubs
  • Spiritual wellbeing at the Multi Faith Centre
  • Volunteering opportunities available on campus and in the community
  • All the other festivities happening on Discovery Day, including food, live music and plenty of opportunities to connect with new friends.

This is your campus – make yourself at home! If you’re new to Swinburne, take time during the day to go on a campus tour during Orientation. Tours will depart every 15 minutes from John Street during your course induction.

Vocational Education study level

If you're enrolled in a diploma or a certificate that is not postgraduate or a UniLink course, you're a vocational education student. 

Click on the following steps below to discover how to get the most out of Orientation. 

You’ll get inducted in your first week of classes, so make sure to be there. You’ll meet your teachers, learn more about your course and get answers to any burning questions you may have.

In the meantime, we have an online module available for you via Canvas, our learning management system. This module includes the 7 steps you should take to kick off your Swinburne journey and valuable info on the support services available to you.

Canvas uses the same username and password as your Swinburne student email, so make sure you set that up first.

Starting uni can be intimidating, but there's no need to go it alone. There are plenty of ways to connect with people who have similar interests and backgrounds outside of your course. If you’re studying at our Hawthorn campus, you can:

  • check out the student clubs showcased on John Street
  • find out how to get involved with volunteering opportunities
  • discover the Multi Faith centre
  • learn more about the peer mentoring program.
Take a campus tour

If Hawthorn is your campus, be sure to join a campus tour during Orientation. They depart every 15 minutes from John Street and are the best way to find all the best spots around uni.

Find out if your first class is on campus or online

You’ll be inducted into your course in your first class, so make sure you know whether you need to be on campus or dialing in via Canvas.

  • Students at Orientation with Swinburne mascot, Razor

    Discovery Day

    After attending your first day, come back and join us on campus for a full day of festivities! Enjoy free food, live music, activities, and plenty of opportunities to re/connect with new friends. It’s the perfect way to wrap up.

  • VC Welcome, Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony

    Join us on campus for a warm welcome from our inspiring Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Pascale Quester, as she marks the beginning of your Swinburne journey.

    During this time, please join us for the Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony. The event is led by Uncle Colin Hunter Jnr and acknowledges the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which our Hawthorn campus is located.

  • Take a campus tour

  • Orientation Mixer

    Not sure how to start chatting with new people? The Orientation Mixer has your back. With light games, group activities, and plenty of finger food, it's designed to make meeting others super easy. Whether you're flying solo or turning up with new mates, come along and feel right at home.

  • Orientation Trivia Night

    Think you’ve got the brains? Come test your knowledge at Orientation Trivia Night! Expect themed rounds covering pop culture, campus life, and more – plus prizes for the top teams. Come with friends or join a group on the night. It’s all about laughs, good food, and a little friendly competition. Teams of up to six, please.

  • Orientation International Mixer

    New to Swinburne? Melbourne? Or even Australia? Join our special Mixer made just for international students. Enjoy classic Aussie games like Guess the Slang, snack on some finger food, and meet fellow students in a relaxed, welcoming space. It’s a fun way to settle in and have a few laughs along the way.

  • Launch week – Day 1

    Launch Week kicks off with a bang! Enjoy free food, live performances, and heaps of activities throughout the day to celebrate the start of semester.

  • Launch Week Social Room – Day 1

    End your first day of Launch Week with a chilled night in the Social Room. With an enclosed marquee, music, fairy lights, and good company, it’s the perfect spot to meet people and unwind. Grab a drink, jump into a game, and let the good vibes flow.

  • Launch Week – Day 2

  • Launch Week Social Room – Day 2

    Keep the momentum going with another night of laid-back fun. The Social Room is back with cozy vibes, casual games, and plenty of space to hang. Whether you're flying solo or coming with mates, this is your midweek reset—music on, lights low, good times guaranteed.

  • Launch Week – Day 3

    We’re closing Launch Week in style. Think entertainment, giveaways, and a few surprises along the way. Don’t miss the final day—it’s gonna be a good one.

  • Launch Week Social Room – Day 3

  • Launch Week Party

    We’re taking over La Di Da Melbourne for a night of great music, good vibes, and unforgettable memories. Whether you're dancing with your friends or meeting new mates, this is the party you don’t want to miss. Keep an eye out for DJ and theme announcements.
