Biography
I am a Professor of Marketing and Department Chair (Management and Marketing) within the School of Business, Law, and Entrepreneurship at Swinburne University of Technology. Previously I held roles at Monash University (2008-2017) and served as visiting professor at EADA Business School, Barcelona (2011-2018). In addition to my academic positions, I serve as an Associate Editor for tthe Journal of Advertising Research and International Journal of Advertising, and I am a member of the Editorial Review Board for the Journal of Advertising. In addition, I am a regular ad-hoc reviewer for premier journals, and was awarded Outstanding Reviewer in 2020 by the journal Business Horizons. Furthermore, I currently supervise 6 doctoral candidates, and have supervised 7 to completion throughout my career.
My research is broadly focused on how digital and physical experience affects marketing theory and practice and I have (co-) authored more than 80 journal articles in Financial Times' Top 50 (FT50) journals such as the Journal of Consumer Research and the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, ABDC-A* journals such as European Journal of Marketing, Journal of Retailing, and Industrial Marketing Management, and ABDC-A journals, such as the Journal of Advertising, Journal of Business Research, Psychology & Marketing, and Journal of Advertising Research, among others. His research has been recognised with multiple awards for research excellence, including at the university level (2016 - Monash Business School Dean's Award for Research Impact for innovations in approach and methods in measuring business investment of a major Australian retailer) and the international level (2019 - Highly Commended Article, European Journal of Marketing; 2020 - Best Paper Award, Business Horizons; 2024 AMA Innovations in Marketing Communications Research Award). I have been involved in over $5 million in research grants.
My experience includes diverse industry consulting and advisory board experience, as well as being keynote speaker at numerous major conferences and events like the World Retail Congress. I have spent the past two decades working across market research and strategy consulting in Australia and New Zealand, at firms including TNS, Chant Link & Associates, and The General Store. This experience is frequently integrated into my teaching through industry-engagement and project-based student learning.
