Ms Inge Gnatt
Biography
I am a Provisionally Registered Psychologist and PhD Candidate, and hold a Bachelor of Dance, Graduate Diploma in Psychology and Bachelor of Psychological Sciences (Hons).
Research interests: My research interests include all aspects of mental health, with a current focus on body image and related disorders, trauma and posttraumatic stress disorder. I have recently been leading a compassion-based intervention for individuals experiencing co-occuring eating disorders and posttraumatic stress disorder, which was run through the Swinburne Psychology Clinic. Valuing the perspectives of people with lived experience is something I integrate into all of my work.
Due to my previous training and employment in classical and contemporary dance, I am also interested in aspects of dance performance psychology, and investigating how to provide psychological support to thrive at different career timepoints - for example, during vocational training, in the transition to professional careers, and out of dance following the decision to stop dancing.
Another interest is organisational psychology where I have previously worked and now consultant. My areas of expertise are inclusion and diversity, managing change, staff health and wellbeing, and coaching mentoring and career development. I enjoy bringing my research and clinical expertise to this work, which allows me to implement useful measures and reporting so that the work can be supported by data, and the information can be disseminated to others where appropriate.
Current projects: My current research is focusing on proof of concept and piloting of a compassion-based intervention to help individuals who are recovering from comorbid eating disorders and posttraumatic stress disorder. This includes investigations into the factors that may influence underlying psychopathology, and testing a novel group-based intervention to target some of the features that may be especially problematic during recovery. This current project is in the final stages of completion, and will be further developed and adapted to families and carers who are supporting someone with an eating disorder through the supervision of a current PhD student with the Centre for Mental Health and Brain Sciences at Swinburne University.
