Biography

Formerly a Deputy Principal, Melinda has almost 30 years of experience teaching and leading in Primary and Secondary schools. During this time she was Head Writer for the innaugral Australian Curriculum for Media F-10, wrote the Victorian Curriculum for VCE Media, and served as the Chief Examiner of Media for VCAA. Melinda is a life member of the Australian Teachers of Media, which was awarded after serving on Board for 20 years. Melinda is a published author of VCE Media textbooks and has written articles on pedagogy for numerous international organisations including Educate Magis and ACER.

As an Academic, Melinda's research focus encompasses her two great academic interests; gender and representational literacies. Her Master’s research was on the phenomenological acquisition of visual literacy in students, and her Doctoral research examines women’s leadership experiences in independent boys’ schools though a Feminist Standpoint theoretical framework. Melinda's other areas of research include educational leadership, visual literacies, and gender inclusive educational leadership practices, and her research methods include phenomenology and feminist theory. Melinda has taught Initial Teacher Training in three Australian tertiary instiutions and has assessed pre-service teachers using the Assessment for Graduate Teachers (AfGT) standards.
